Dress up in your favourite costume from the world of comics, anime, gaming, genre films & TV, or pop culture in general !
If you're a novice cosplayer or an experienced cosplayer, hiring a costume, or making your own, this is the event to come and strut your stuff ! Join the fun !  Cosplaying at FanCon is of course not compulsory but much more fun if you do 😊  You are welcome to cosplay throughout the whole day and for both days. Do also take note of the specific cosplay events to attend below as well as cosplay panel talks and workshops that will be added to our panel programme at a later stage. Additional cosplay activations may be announced, watch this space !

THEMED COSPLAY GROUPS 

Fan group cosplays are arranged by fans for the fans ! Join the fun with these themed groups on specific days and dont miss the opportunity with the massive group photos taken on stage ! Click the image below to see details of each group on their respective Facebook event pages.




COSPLAY PANEL TALKS & WORKSHOPS
Closer to the event we will release our panel programme. This will of course list all cosplay panel talks and workshops by our guests and panelist. Expect exciting interviews with guests, discussions on cosplay, as well as workshops on creating amazing cosplays !


COSPLAY SHOWCASE

Meet local cosplayers in the cosplay zone ! With so many talented local cosplayers with online fans on the local scene, this will be your chance to meet them as well as buy their prints ! Get a selfie, photo-op and get your print signed by a roster of local cosplayers.
We will update once we have the full roster of cosplayers in this zone.

KIDS COSPLAY

Children are of course welcome to attend in costume and also get a chance to showcase themselves with the kids cosplay masquerade each day.
This takes place on the stage -  Saturday at 1PM & Sunday at 4PM

All children 12 and younger are welcome to enter and stand the chance to win some spot prizes !


COSPLAY MASQUERADE 

Stage - Saturday 27 April : 1-3pm

MC : TBA

Activities kick off with a cosplay masquerade on the Saturday. All cosplayers who wish to participate in the masquerade must assemble alongside the stage and will be registered on site to participate and will receive a number just before the masquerade begins at (time TBC). Cosplayers will then be called up in number sequence to pose on stage and have their official photo taken. Basic Rules : No real weapons, only replicas allowed. No nudity.

  

COSPLAY COMPETITIONS 

Stage - Sunday 29 April : 4pm - 6pm

This year there are 3 components, an open cosplay competition for casual cosplayers,  followed by an intermediate construction based competition as well as an advanced construction based competition for experienced cosplayers. Please note, you may only enter one of the competitions.

OPEN COMPETITION
SUNDAY 29 APRIL : 4-6pm



The Open Competition is open to all cosplayers except experienced cosplayers who have placed in the top 3 positions of any previous major competition.

Registration Fee – R30 (cash only)

By entering the competition, you automatically agree to abide by the competition rules.

HOW TO ENTER

Register and collect your cosplay attendance number at the Cosplay Cape Town table on Saturday 27 April (10am-6pm) or on Sunday 28 April (10am -11am). Assemble at the stage before the comp begins, with your attendance number and reference pic.

INFORMATION

The competition will be judged by a panel of 3 judges, who will score entrants on presentation only. No pre-judging required. Judges decision is final. No late entries will be allowed.

RULES

1.      You must be 13 or older to enter.

2.      Costumes must be from the world of comics/anime/manga/gaming/movies &TV.  Costumes may be entered that are based on variations of existing characters (e.g. a steampunk Harley Quinn) but NO original characters are allowed.

3.      Costumes may be assembled from a mix of self-made parts & accessories, as well as bought or hired items.

4.      Group/duo entries will be classified as one entry, but each participant in the group/duo must register individually.

5.      Costumes may NOT include real weapons , but only replicas thereof.

6.      A reference picture of your character is mandatory.  You must bring an A4 colour printout of your reference pic to the con (no cell phone/flash stick images).

7.      No nudity or sexually explicit costumes are allowed. This is an all ages public event.

8.     If any part of your costume is deemed a safety or health hazard, it will not be allowed.

9.      Please inform the organisers asap should you wish to withdraw from the competition. Please note, cosplayers withdrawing from the competition will not be refunded.

Competition rules may be amended or adjusted as required.


INTERMEDIATE COMPETITION
SUNDAY 28 APRIL : 4-6pm
(pre-judging time TBC)

The Intermediate Competition is open to all cosplayers except experienced cosplayers who have placed in the top 3 positions of any previous major competition.

Registration Fee – R40 (cash only)

PRIZES : Top 3 Places

- 1st : TBC

- 2nd : TBC

- 3rd : TBC

2. Costumes must be from the world of comics/anime/manga/gaming/movies &TV.  Costumes may be entered that are based on variations of existing characters ( e.g. a steampunk Harley Quinn ) but NO original characters are allowed. Note, you must have relevant reference pics of your character.

3. Costumes may not be bought or hired. Particular parts, accessories and props may be purchased, but the costume must be at least 50% self-made. Hired and bought costumes are only allowed for casual cosplay and entry to the cosplay masquerade.

4. Costumes that have won, or placed in any position in previous cosplay competitions, will not be allowed.

5. Group/duo entries will be classified as one entry, but each participant in the group/duo must register individually.

6. Costumes may NOT include real weapons , but only replicas thereof.

ADVANCED COMPETITION

(pre-judging time TBC)

Recommended for advanced and experienced cosplayers but open to all. As this is a masters level component, judges will more strict & meticulous in their judging process.

Registration Fee – R50 (cash only)

PRIZES : Top 3 Places

- 1st : TBC

- 3rd : TBC
